Ecology
-An Ecology fittet for a childs learning and for the tempalte to world citizenship
At Blå Veje we will build in ways, that allow for the optimal potential for children to concentrate and learn. People thrive when in an environment appropriate and suitable for humans. This may seem obvious, yet many schools today are geared to some old societal norms and economic considerations and may be strongly influenced by the architecture and needs of industrialization.
At Blå Veje, we have the approach that the school must be built and adapted to the needs of the human and the child, and that it must be done with care and from a concrete knowledge of what supports what you could call "the inner environment of the human being." In short, the external environment must support the inner environment of the mind and body so that the environment is suitable for learning, creating and being.
The school must therefore be built with the focus on an environment that creates the most appropriate educational atmosphere. Both the indoor and outdoor spaces should provide space for the inspiration, tranquillity, total absorption and safety of the child. Physically, the school must pay attention to the students personal space needs and other considerations that support the students' learning process.
The light in the learning room is an important element. The strength and constancy of light affects the child's psyche. Therefore, at Blå Veje, we will mainly use natural non-disturbing light, full-spectrum light and light that creates specific moods and has a constructive impact on the child's energy level.
We also work with a conscious approach to the impact of different colors on the learning process for the child.
It must be built to provide optimum sound conditions; good acoustics, silencing and space for good concentration, rest and play. We want to use Feng Shui here, and we also want to integrate knowledge about plants, gardens and all that supports a natural and healthy learning environment. The school thus seeks to create the most appropriate educational atmospheres in the physical environment, supported by the teacher's own values and good classroom management, of course.
It is natural for a child to love learning. We humans are created to learn from birth until we die, but in our modern world, more children need extra support and care to help them take up new learning. Otherwise, it will be a heavy burden that many children and young people do not enjoy.
At Blå Veje we work deliberately to create a natural and inspiring learning environment based on well-documented research. We want to move away from the unconscious and rather vague sensation of what creates a good atmosphere and how we influence and maintain it.
We hope to build the school from scratch with new, innovative buildings that are both sustainable and educational, suitable for the task. We have inspiration from many places - eg. from the Mongolian yurts whose design creates a better working climate than the whitewashed classrooms with fluorescent flashing lights and poor acoustics.
We want to create a framework and atmosphere that fits the purpose of the various teaching activities. This will be done by designing specific learning rooms and learning cabins for different subjects - eg. a story room where only the history is taught so that the essence of the subject is able to anchor itself. In this way, the room will support learning through the very spirit of living in the room. Who can not remember the good teaching rooms where the subject could almost be scented, sensed and felt, the second you entered?

Seven ’Activity Buildings’ will be especially associated with three ’Learning Pods’. The activity buildings will be arranged to meet different needs - eg. the activity room for chemistry and physics and mathematics will be designed for experiments, while the activity room for music will be designed for playing instruments and making music.
The individual ’Learning Pods’ will each anchors the nature and essence of specific subjects. They will be designed to create a special environment that supports natural learning in children and adolescents. If a circumstance is too stuffy and cramped, it makes the children nervous and they are affected by each other's stress and struggling to rest in themselves and focus. The unique design of the capsules prevents stress, irritation, concern and electromagnetic static electricity from interfering in the classroom. Their shape is round and there are high ceilings. The room seems bright, free and open. It is a natural form that gives light and air around the individual child. It is neutral and not overwhelming for the children.
The atmosphere created inside the Pods with inspiration and care stimulates the children's ability to understand and absorb knowledge. It makes the brain suck like a sponge, so the children can accomplish and absorb more in a lively and healthy way. The floor will be made of wood or possibly terracotta tiles - natural materials like the ground we walk on that can absorb stress and tension that the child doesn’t need. If new learning goes in (to the child), there is also something coming out of the system. Wood and fabrics are used because they are natural materials that can help the children feel well.
The light will be natural light from the windows and/or soft light from a wide-spectrum bulb - not neon lights. It will of course be strong enough for reading but it will not flicker, as it may cause daydreaming and mental imbalance in the long run. The curtains will be silk and cotton that block static electricity and provide a sense of well-being and warmth.
Water is one of the most cleansing sources. It is life-giving and can help "rinse" everyday life free from stress and tension. Around the Pods there are thin nylon strings connected to a water pump, so that small waterdrops run down all the time. It cleans the air in the capsule and keeps it clean.
Learning should be a pleasant experience which is appropriate for the child's physical, mental and personal needs. Since the physical environment has such a big effect, it is one of the pedagogical pillars for the formation of world citizens at Blå Veje.
