The Framework​

- Academic approach and a curriculum based on school as a university of life, with some daily structures that are adapted to the child's natural versatile development and formation

Schools today need new thinking in terms of the structure and rhythm of the learning day and its needs, and should be built around the modern understanding of the child and our understanding of learning.
In Blå Veje we will organize everyday life with frameworks adapted to the child's natural versatile development. This requires a good didactic overview, which is essential when educating and enabling an individual’s journey towards becoming a world citizen with insights of the greater perspective and lifelong learning.
 
In Blå Veje the school curriculum, daily and annual planning are the tools we use to map the values, teaching content and teaching methods that the students will meet during their schooling. The overarching framework thinking helps to ensure that teaching is not left to chance, especially in the important formative years from 0 to 12 years.
 
Students will follow a daily curriculum that is adapted to their age, while taking into account their specific emotional and social needs, and builds academically on what they have learned so far. Such education requires a lot of work from teachers and educators, but on BlåVeje we consider it crucial if you want to make sure that the students get the education they need - and not just let the coincidences prevail.
 
The starting point at Blå Veje is that each child is unique and has its own personal genius and potential. It is up to the individual to figure out what it is they love, and thereby find their way of life. For the most beautiful people, it's not something they just do. It is therefore a process that we actively support at Blå Veje from the early childhood years by exposing students to many different possibilities for development; subjects, crafts, skills and artistic expressions.
 
 
When you have the right tools and are exposed to the right things, the possibilities in life are infinite. This is of great importance in Blå Veje.
This exposure is done safely through field work where the students meet different people with diverse occupations, passions and ways of living - and by exploring different arts, crafts and expression possibilities indoors as well as in nature. In this way, students always have the opportunity to form their own experiences, soak up and experiment and try out.



A view into a day at Blå Veje
 
At Blå Veje the day will start with attuning together to the right place to begin the school day, for example, by singing, meditation, nature walks and other ways of harmonising all the pupils to get the best out of being together and learning together.
In the first part of the day we will have more focussed work and will often work individually. The pupils will work at their own tempo, and will be given challenges to an appropriate degree. The rest of the day is based on the observation that longer, slower, more continuous processes are best for improving retention and comprehension.
Subjects are studied in segments of two weeks or longer offering many opportunities for a full soaking in an area through as many media as possible. This process creates in-depth understanding of what is being taught. Children are immersed in a subject, such as the study of water or learning about a country in 2-3 week concentrated segments.  They experience as many aspects of the subject as possible through drama, literature, play, stories, math, science, pictures, the arts, practical life skills and field trips. 
Learning is enlivened and the results are stored in the child’s memory through rich experience, where the interconnections between things are naturally presented.  Lessons are vibrant and practical, and cause connections of understanding that are deep-rooted.
